For the final project in my motion course, I had the unique challenge of assuming both client and creator roles. This involved crafting my own short film as a motion designer and creative director, emphasizing the crucial aspect of strategic planning. I navigated through various stages, including brainstorming creative ideas, writing the script, developing storyboards, recording the voiceover, exploring diverse aesthetic options, and steering the overall creative direction
The project's framework was intentionally broad, allowing me the freedom to explore multiple avenues and select an approach that resonated with my design and creative instincts. This opportunity empowered me to produce something that genuinely sparked my excitement and could serve as a standout piece in my portfolio, showcasing the type of work I'm passionate about creating.
I aimed to animate a Khoisan myth using rock art within a cave. The story unfolds in the cave, lit by a torch, where the static rock art comes alive, narrating a traditional Khoisan tale. Characters move dynamically across scenes, merging 2D animation over 3D Maya renders of the environment. This approach allowed the animation to seamlessly traverse the cave while utilizing both frame-by-frame and Duik character animation techniques. Crucially, my goal was to remain faithful to the essence of traditional San culture throughout the storytelling process.Â
